“I think creating is the closest we can get to God. He’s the greatest artist of all time.”
After a single listen to Benson Price Jones’s ‘Nyquil’, one could only feel an instant connection to his music. Carrying his passion since a youngin’, he brought his talents from his home of North Carolina to the world. While writing songs that are straight from his soul and honing an artistic sound that is not only intriguing but refreshing, he continues to break through barriers on the daily.
Benson started with a very artistic background. Growing up with siblings in music and learning guitar since he was 7, he had always had motivation for music. He started with posting instagram covers and acoustics before he got an opportunity to work with Cinematic Pop. Since then, after conversations with people close to him, he got the strength to pursue music head on. When asked about his inspirations, a lot come from his childhood. “My Mom from a super young age would always tell me I would make an impact.” Benson states, “I kind of always had a desire to do that on a bigger scale.”
Through thick and thin Benson persevered through his journey. One of the biggest challenges he faced was making the jump from North Carolina, Arizona and then California. This period of his life then inspired his soon to be released song, ‘Losing My Grip.’ “I was going back and forth between California and Arizona. My friend was doing this job, getting signatures for ballots. I spent the next 6 months living out of my car, bouncing from couch to couch…That’s what inspired ‘Losing My Grip.’ [It was] written from a real place, trying to keep my head above water, not knowing if I made the right decisions.”
Since then Benson has achieved great success. His song 'Nyquil' is right on the way to 60,000 streams on Spotify and a collaboration with Sunday Scaries and Evie Clare has brought over 200,000 streams. Benson has many things in the works, including a recently released NFT project and a song releasing near the end of February.
One of the biggest takeaways Benson had to offer was his insights on creating. “Majority of people act in fear. That just keeps you stagnant. I’m really pushing for what I love to do. My biggest advice is to just follow your inner compass. Follow your heart and be in touch with that thing inside of you that points you in the right direction.”
